My role at indycube: Post by Dai Lloyd

New locations and the benefits of basic income: musings by Dai Lloyd

Just to introduce myself, my name is Dai (David) Lloyd and I’ve been working with Indycube for a few years now in various guises. I started working as an associate from the first Indycube location at Culverhouse Cross some five years ago now where I plotted word domination of the pop charts with my record label and music publishing company “Rheidol Records.”

Funnily enough, I am still currently waiting for for my no.1 single but found that my time working from Indycube was ultra-productive and it was something I had been looking for for some time. One thing led to another – I became an Indycube anchor at the original Cardiff Bay site, then started working part time and then full time for Indycube. I have moved more desks than I care to remember for Indycube (the record I think was 46 in one day from Culverhouse to our main location at Trade St in Cardiff!), and have graduated from dealing with enquiries to looking after our locations as our “Estates Manager” currently. This involves overseeing all of our current sites and establishing new locations for Indycube, often in conjunction with our many partners.

On this theme I’m pleased to announce that we have new space to offer in Finsbury Park, London in conjunction with Outlandish; in the beautiful Rhymney Valley in the fantastic Whitbread Building and are soon to open in sunny Rhyl. We’ve also added Newport YMCA which has fantastic conference facilities – please get in touch if you have need of any of our current or up and coming spaces.

I’ve also been working hard in conjunction with many of our partners in Walthamstow to get the space there up and running, which has proven a lot more challenging than we had envisaged, however things are finally moving forward and we *hope* to open by the beginning of November. Please drop me an email if you are interested in using that particular space so I can keep you up to date with any news.

One of the perks of working for Indycube is that we have a certain amount of “basic income” time which allows us to do some other interesting stuff outside of the office and - apart from clearing the diary every morning for Popmaster on Radio 2 at 10.30am (I will go on it one day!) - I am a swimming teacher and you can find me correcting stroke techniques a couple of evenings a week and on a Sunday morning!

Please get in touch if you have any enquiries about our spaces (or require reminding about breaststroke technique) here: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or on twitter @indycubedai – I’d love to hear from you!
